Look under USB devices for something that represents your flash drive, or simply unplug it wait for your system to refresh, then plug it back in and watch for an update. In the box that appears type the following command "devmgmt.msc" (no quotations).ģ. Press "Windows key+R" (the windows key looks like the little window next to the alt key on the left typically)Ģ. It is important to remember that your device does need to appear in device manager. These tools go right to the controller chip of your flash drive. Now the sites I will be sending you to are in Russian as this is where most of the chip flashing tools are available (there is a sister English site however it is not as robust) so you will want to use chrome or another web browser with translation services. So I did some more research and came across some articles and tools that fixed me right up. I just didn't have it in me to let this little guy go as it really was trusty for the most part.
The factory firmware flash would not work because the VID (Vendor ID) and PID (Product ID) in device manager were not reporting back correctly (A.K.A the tool wouldn't work becuase it did not see the device it wanted). Well after bouncing between HP and PNY support sites I found that things were worse off than I originally thought. I became rather disheartened mainly because I knew it was time to flash the firmware IF the manufacturer had it available. I was not to fond of the idea of losing it but after clearing the "Read-Only" flags in DISKPART to only see that the current read-only state would not clear. I had a 256GB USB drive fail on me recently. FAKEFLASHTEST (If you have an expensive or generic USB drive).Your drive can be saved even if the manufacturer does not support it.
